Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the questions and comments I have been asked over the past few years.

What happens when it rains?
You get wet. Actually, this is not such a silly question, as it implies that you should not use anything on the railway that cannot stand wet weather. This means that paper and card are out as modelling materials.
Doesn’t the rain cause short circuits?
In a word: No.
Isn’t electricity dangerous in the garden?
Electricity is dangerous anywhere. At least the railway modeller does not have the same problems as those using electricity for mowing the lawn: there are no rotating blades to cut through the mains cable.
OO gauge and other small-scale model railways are not designed for use outdoors.
Don’t be such a miserable killjoy. Or perhaps you’d like to ask my local council for planning permission for a 175 x 30 ft. garden shed. Also, please refer to the instructions that come with Peco Code 83 points and crossings, where it states that their products will work outdoors.
